Young Adult Literature Symposium: Cultivating Joy for Literacy Learning

Target Audience:
Language Arts, Middle and Upper School teachers, Middle and Upper School Division Directors, and Librarians looking for high quality resources for teaching writing and educators who are interested in young adult literature.

Description:
Educators will engage in Collaboration, Creation, and Connections
through book networking, storytelling capacities, and materials with a
focus on YA Literature to support the curriculum at your school.
Following an engaging keynote, participants will meet new authors,
explore engaging series, and access author connections. General
enthusiasts of YA literature will gain insight into the newest works being
published in the field. 

Keynote: Cultivating a Joy for Literacy, Allan Wolf, Author 
Wolf's picture books, poetry collections, young adult novels, and nonfiction celebrate his love of research, history, science, and poetry. His work The Watch That Ends the Night is on the 50 Best YA Books of All Time list and YALSA's Outstanding Books for the College Bound. His newest titles include a YA historical novel in verse, The Snow Fell Three Graves Deep: Voices from the Donner Party, a Finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Young Adult Literature and American Library Association's Best Fiction for Young Adults. He has written numerous titles, including a picture book (No Buddy Like a Book), a poetry collection about the solar system (The Day the Universe Exploded My Head), and a poetry collection about a busy school garden (Behold Our Magical Garden). Join Wolf for an engaging session exploring how we cultivate and nurture the joy for literacy into young adulthood.


Three 20-minute Breakout Sessions with Additional Authors
: Jack Castle, Kate Fussner, Frank Morelli, Shannon Rogers, and  and Helen Strahinich.
Participants will chose up to three of these authors for each of the three breakout sessions. Participants will not be pre-assigned.
