Target Audience: 
Middle and Upper School Math Department Chairs and Teachers, and Deans of Academics & Faculty 

Description:
In this highly engaging and hands-on learning event, participants will work together in teams to learn structures and strategies to incorporate elements of discourse, solve rich mathematical tasks, and empower students through student reflection. Firsthand experience with activities and resources will be given for immediate use in your classroom. Come join us for a day of collaborating and networking to enhance your instructional practice.

Outcomes:

  • Cover topics of Collaboration, Rich Tasks, and Reflection.
  • Gain access to and experience structures and strategies used to create a collaborative learning environment.
  • Increase empathy for students by experiencing productive struggle as a mathematician.
  • Engage in team worthy problems to emphasize how rich tasks and reflection support long term retention.
  • Identify ways to maximize instructional impact by reflecting on the 8 Mathematical teaching practices. 
  • Gain access to resources specific for student reflection.
  • Create an action plan of strategies and resources.

Gerry Long
Regional Professional Learning Coordinator - Southeast, Pilot Liaison
Starkville, MS
Gerry Long is CPM’s Pilot Liaison for all regions and Regional Professional Learning Coordinator for the Southeast Region. During her 27-year teaching career, she taught middle and high school math courses, including the CPM CCA2 course. Before her current role as RPLC, Gerry served as a teacher leader, math coach, and regional coordinator. Gerry lives in Starkville, MS, and enjoys spending time with family and friends at Mississippi State sporting events.

 

Ashley Boyd
Professional Learning Specialist - Southeast
Nesbit, MS
Ashley Boyd is a Professional Learning Specialist from Mississippi, part of the Southeast Region. She started her career as an elementary teacher before moving to middle school where she developed a love (and understanding) for mathematics. During her time in the middle school classroom she taught 6th, 7th & 8th grade. Ashley loves running collaborative spaces and wants to empower teachers to develop strategies to do the same. In 2020, she joined CPM on their mission for MORE MATH FOR MORE PEOPLE and shares her passion through coaching teachers & leading professional learning.

 

 



TAIS Board-Approved Cancellation Policy
Attendees will receive a full refund for an in-person event if they cancel up to three weeks prior to the event and a 50% refund up to two weeks before the event. Refunds are not possible after two weeks prior to the event due to the costs incurred for food orders and other administrative and setup fees. All refunds will reflect a 15% administration fee.
