What Does the Science of Reading Say About Teaching Language Comprehension?

Presented by The Center for the Collaborative Classroom

9:30 am - 2:15 pm Central
St. Paul Christian Academy, Nashville

Description:
While much of the Science of Reading conversation focuses on the urgent need for explicit and systematic instruction in word recognition, the science does not stop there. Participants will explore how the research informs language comprehension instruction and examine the characteristics of high quality instructional practices for background knowledge, vocabulary, language structure, verbal reasoning, and literacy knowledge. They will leave with practical instructional strategies that support students in applying these skills strategically to become skilled readers.

For those who attended our Reading Workshop last spring, this is a separate workshop with new strategies.
