Racial Identity and Racial Equality Webinar

Laura Hamilton of Southeast Psych will lead this conversation, beginning with an overview of terms (racism, anti-racist, prejudice, discrimination, and institutional oppression) and current research on defining and understanding our identity. After setting ground rules for the group, Dr. Hamilton will facilitate discussion about how our identities shape our points of view and perspectives and how our perspectives naturally shape and limit our understanding of the world around us. Participants should expect to reflect on their own identity and its impact on their perception of others and of systems that perpetuate racism. Goals for this discussion are to create a space to share ideas and concerns and to consider how to take one's increased awareness back to school communities in effective ways.
