Dr. Annette C. Smith  (2018) 

Dr. Annette C. Smith served as Head of School of Hutchison from 2000 to 2017.

Under her visionary leadership, the school’s Pre-K2 through 12th grade program was transformed, and its endowment enjoyed a six-fold increase. Hutchison also earned national recognition for its world languages, leadership development, and fine arts programs.

Prior to joining Hutchison, Dr. Smith enjoyed successful stints as Head of School of St. Francis Episcopal Day School in Houston, Texas, and Headmistress of Good Shepherd Episcopal School in Dallas, Texas. Both schools were cited as exemplary schools by the U.S. Department of Education during her tenures there. Over the course of her esteemed 50-year career in education, she served as an administrator and teacher in both public and private schools.

She holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Louisiana State University, an Educational Specialist degree in curriculum and counseling from the University of Louisiana, and a Doctor of Education in Educational Administration from the University of Mississippi. Dr. Smith has served as president of the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools and the Memphis Association of Independent Schools.
