Equip Your School to Keep Kids Healthy:   How to Prevent Early Drinking, Vaping, & Other Drug Use

February 21, 2019

10:00 - 3:30 Central Time

Battle Ground Academy, Franklin

Stacey Wisniewski has been a Prevention Specialist for FCD since 2016. She holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English and Literature from Arcadia University and has worked with adolescents in several teaching and mentoring positions in and out of schools. When she is not traveling for FCD, Stacey is hosting groups for individuals in recovery from addiction. She is also an energetic healing practitioner with a focus on spiritual recovery after trauma.

The World Health Organization defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease. So, prevention is not really about illness, but about health and wellness. This workshop is designed to train participants to strengthen their school’s prevention climate, so that it can prevent healthy students’ early use of alcohol, vaping, and other drugs.

Participants will define health, wellness, and prevention, and will engage with the FCD Prevention Works “all use equals risk” philosophy. Using regional data trends and data-informed wellness materials, participants will strengthen their own inventory of accurate information about substances, with a primary focus on the substances students may use most – alcohol, nicotine, and marijuana. Guided by an expert FCD Prevention Specialist, participants will build on their current capacity to engage students, work with one another, and successfully facilitate prevention-themed role play, data analysis, critical thinking exercises, and open-ended, age-appropriate, productive prevention discussions for both students and adults.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have increased both their comfort with prevention language and their confidence to work as communities to coach students toward protective lifestyles free from early alcohol and other drug use.
