Target Audience:
Middle and Upper School Teachers, Advisors, Counselors, Department Chairs, and Deans of Academics & Faculty 

Narrative 4 is for schools that

Outcomes:  

  1. This will be a 5-hour training, resulting in the certification of participants as Narrative 4 Facilitators.
  2. Knowledge and experience in practicing deep listening and Narrative 4’s Story Exchange Method at the heart of our work to strengthen students' understanding of and capacity for self-empathy, relational empathy, and empathy-into-action through civic engagement.
  3. The facilitator’s toolkit manual.
  4. A unique plan for utilizing the story exchange to meet their own specific class or school-wide learning goals.
  5. Full access to Narrative 4’s online Learning Resources, including asynchronous courses, lesson plans, and scheduled “live” sessions with advisors to support planning and implementing SEL and curricular goals.
  6. Access to Narrative 4’s global network of artists and educators

Presenters:  
Evan Barker
is a Southeast Regional Manager for Narrative 4, responsible for AR, TN, KY, WV, VA, NC, and SC. He began his career as an orchestra musician before accidentally becoming a bookseller and then an English teacher, coming to N4 after eight years in the secondary classroom. He believes that language is humanity’s greatest achievement and hopes to spend his whole career propagating the word in the service of understanding and peace. He holds a B.M. in Viola Performance and a B.A. in English from Middle Tennessee State University, and an M.A. in Teaching English from the University of Kentucky. He lives in Richmond, Kentucky, with his wife and two children.

 
 

Kate Rudder is a certified Narrative 4 trainer based in Chattanooga who connects schools and organizations across the Southeast to Narrative 4 support, resources, and events. She has written on the power of story-sharing to nurture empathy and motivate positive civic engagement. Kate holds a B.A. in English from Denison University and from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University, an M.A. in Anthropology, and MAPA in Public Administration. Kate brings experience as a consultant to international organizations in telling their stories and listening to the stories of their stakeholders. She has experience in the US and abroad teaching English, designing and coordinating development programs, and community organizing.

 

 

TAIS Board-Approved Cancellation Policy
Attendees will receive a full refund for an in-person event if they cancel up to three weeks prior to the event and a 50% refund up to two weeks before the event. Refunds are not possible after two weeks prior to the event due to the costs incurred for food orders and other administrative and setup fees. All refunds will reflect a 15% administration fee.
